"Developing playing and practice opportunities for all in the local community"
Stevenage Cricket Club’s (SCCs’) history stretches back to the nineteenth century. The Club played its first full season in 1878 and has been located at Ditchmore Lane, Old Town, since 1901. The Club played an important role in the successful integration of the Old and New Town Communities by throwing membership open to all and since then players have gone on to play first class cricket and even represent England. We are proud of what our past players and volunteers achieved; it was their enthusiasm, determination, strength and skills that built SCC.
We are also proud of what we are achieving today. Since 2003 a lot of voluntary work with partner organisations has been going on behind the scenes to lay the foundations and ensure the structure is in place for the Club to develop into a sustainable community cricket club fit for the 21st century, for the future generations of the ever expanding Stevenage Community.
For instance we have developed into a lead Hertfordshire - England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Focus Club. In 2005 the club achieved the prestigious ECB and Sport England - Clubmark Standard. The Clubmark Standard is awarded in recognition of standards in: duty of care, coaching and competition, sports equity and ethics, club management and development.
